On Thursday, March 20, the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI) held a seminar in honor of Carlos Mariani, Founder of CEBRI, whose legacy was marked by significant contributions to strengthening Brazil's national industry and international relations.
The event brought together colleagues, family members, and friends to celebrate his life and achievements and recall key moments of his career.
The welcoming remarks were delivered by Julia Dias Leite, CEO at CEBRI, followed by the institutional opening by José Pio Borges, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at CEBRI. Next, renowned figures who co-founded CEBRI alongside Mariani 27 years ago shared their memories: Celso Lafer, Founding Trustee at CEBRI; Roberto Teixeira da Costa, Founding Trustee at CEBRI; and Ambassador Gelson Fonseca Jr., Founding Trustee at CEBRI.
The tribute also featured remarks from Maria Silvia Bastos Marques, a pioneer in female leadership in major companies and former President of CSN and BNDES; Eduardo Eugênio Gouvêa Vieira, former President of FIRJAN; Ambassador Frederico Araújo; Pedro Malan, Trustee Emeritus at CEBRI and former Minister of Finance (1995–2002); and Pedro Henrique Mariani, Trustee at CEBRI and brother of Carlos Mariani.
Ambassador Marcos Azambuja, Trustee Emeritus at CEBRI, closed the event by highlighting Carlos Mariani's enduring legacy: "I would like to ask José Pio for permission not to conclude this tribute. The word 'conclusion' suggests an end, and I would rather have Carlos' presence among us at the CEBRI he helped to find, continue."
Among those present at the tribute were Ambassador Antonio Souza e Silva, Member of CEBRI's International Advisory Board; Armando Mariante, Trustee at CEBRI; Joaquim Falcão, Trustee at CEBRI; Ambassador José Alfredo Graça Lima, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees at CEBRI; and José Luiz Alquéres, Trustee Emeritus at CEBRI.
