On August 8, 2025, CEBRI convened the seminar "Mato Grosso do Sul and Brazil: Public Administration and Environmental Licensing", featuring Eduardo Riedel, Governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, with moderation by Paulo Hartung, Trustee at CEBRI and Executive Chairman of the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá).
During the discussion, the Governor outlined development pathways for the state and shared future perspectives, highlighting initiatives focused on food security, energy transition, and bolstering logistics infrastructure. Among the main points addressed were:
The agribusiness potential of Mato Grosso do Sul, with expanded cultivated areas of grains and sugarcane and reforestation projects in pasture and non-native areas;
Progress in the bioenergy sector, with local and multinational companies investing in new technologies to produce energy from biomass—especially the marked growth of corn ethanol, which positioned the state as Brazil's second-largest producer;
The strategic role of infrastructure investments, particularly in highways, waterways, and the Bioceanic Route, a project aiming to create a road corridor linking the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil to the Pacific Ocean in Chile, passing through Paraguay and Argentina.
The event included the presence of Trustees, Members, and other participants from CEBRI, among them Luiz Ildefonso Simões Lopes, Vice-Chairman at the Board of Trustees of CEBRI and Vice-Chairman at Brookfield; Armínio Fraga, Trustee at CEBRI and former President of the Central Bank; Edmar Bacha, Trustee at CEBRI and Founding Partner and Director of IEPE/Casa das Garças; and Clarissa Lins, Member of the International Advisory Board at CEBRI and Founding Partner of Catavento.
