Closed-door meetings

The G20 Brazil: Driving New Synergies for Climate Finance and Development

The event discussed new ways to 1) address rapidly rising finance gaps to meet the global climate and development goals, 2) de-risk investments in the Global South, especially in small island states and other immediately climate vulnerable countries, 3) implement the recommendations of the independent experts group on the multilateral development bank system and 4) explore how governance innovations within the G20 - creation of dual ministerial groups such as on health and finance or climate and finance, creation of new working groups, creation of ad-hoc taskforces… - could contribute to the global building of a new generation of international institutions. The event thus aimed at sharing some conclusions and recommendations that could be further discussed and refined during additional gatherings which are planned in New York at the occasion of the 2024 UN General Assembly and during the COP29 in Baku.
