CEBRI at Climate Week NYC 2025

  • 30 september 2025

From September 21 to 28, CEBRI participated in Climate Week NYC 2025, one of the foremost global forums on climate change, hosted annually in New York. Coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly, the event set the stage for discussions pivotal to COP30 in Belém (PA).

Throughout the week, leaders from business, politics, academia, and civil society convened to tackle the climate crisis, focusing on themes like food systems, energy transition, and sustainability. The 2025 slogan — “It’s Time” — highlighted the pressing need for concrete actions to mitigate global warming.

As a key part of the agenda, CEBRI organized two events featuring insights from Senior Fellow Rafaela Guedes and International Advisory Councillor Clarissa Lins, addressing important topics of mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, and governance.

Enabling Conditions for Mainstreaming Technologies to Reduce GHG Emissions

On September 24, CEBRI, in collaboration with the National Confederation of Industries and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, hosted the event titled “Creating Favorable Conditions for the Diffusion of GHG Emission Reduction Technologies.” This roundtable sparked a discussion aimed at engaging vital stakeholders and promoting actionable steps toward COP30.

Moderated by Rafaela Guedes, the meeting gathered experts to explore financing gaps, the necessity of appropriate regulatory frameworks, and the conditions essential for the large-scale implementation of carbon capture and storage technologies (CCUS).

Participants stressed the need to enhance financial access, lower costs, foster cooperation between public and private sectors, and strengthen international collaboration on cross-border initiatives. Carbon capture technologies were recognized as critical tools for combating global warming, complementing other strategies in the energy transition.

Carbon advantage: Advancing a robust and verifiable carbon accounting framework

Also on September 24, the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center partnered with CEBRI for the event “Moving Toward a Robust and Verifiable Carbon Accounting Framework.”

This initiative aimed to establish a global carbon accounting system that is standardized, verifiable, auditable, and traceable, mitigating the risks associated with double counting. The live broadcast included contributions from Clarissa Lins, alongside policymakers, industry leaders, and global experts. Discussions focused on practical next steps to harmonize carbon accounting standards, a topic acknowledged by the COP30 presidency as essential for unlocking low-carbon markets.

As Clarissa remarked, “This topic may be quite technical, but it is fundamental to lay the groundwork for a low-carbon economy. Ultimately, societies, governments, and businesses can only manage what they can measure.”
